Sisters, Oregon Beer and Wine Guide

by | May 2, 2022

Sisters sits at the crossroads of high desert ranching country and the vast wilderness of the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests at the base of the mighty Cascade Mountains. Sisters Country is known for providing adventurous experiences and farm-to-table dining. Like the rest of Central Oregon, the city of Sisters is a great spot to enjoy craft brews and fine wines from both local and imported sources. Read on to discover some of the best places to sip your favorite libation in Sisters.

Breweries in Sisters and Where to Enjoy Local Beer

Three Creeks Brewing is the oldest and largest craft brewery in Sisters. For years they were the only brewery in town, which helped establish them as the go-to spot in Sisters for good local beer. Three Creeks tout that they create beer “to drink and enjoy, not to intimidate or impress. Trends come and go, but exceptional taste never goes out of style.” Sticking to that belief, they serve six year-round beers, five of which are award-winning brews, along with a rotating tap list that includes seasonals. Beer lovers of all kinds will find something to love, from the critically acclaimed Fivepine Chocolate Porter to the aptly named Crowdpleaser IPA.

While Three Creeks is the Sisters original, a new brewery has been making waves in the community. Funky Fauna Artisan Ales is a new brewery, established in 2021, that focuses on terroir-driven beers through the use of local, sustainable ingredients. These terroir-driven ingredients promote the growth of certain fungi during the fermentation process that bring with them a flavor that is unique to the land that they were grown in. In other words, terroir-driven beers contain certain ingredients that provide a different flavor profile when they are grown in different environments. Even when the brewing process and species of hops are identical, a beer with hops grown in the Willamette Valley will taste different than a beer made with hops grown in another area. The beers here can often be complex, and are perfect for satisfying an experienced beer connoisseur. Described as a “hyper small” brewery, Funky Fauna does things as locally as possible, with specific high quality ingredients, such as local Mecca Grade Pelton Pilsner malt, Oregon grown Strata hops and more. It’ll be tough to find a brewery offering more unique tastings than this one.

Wine in Central Oregon used to be understated, but the wine scene has seen impressive growth in recent years. Now in Sisters, visitors can sip their favorite wines at a wine bar that strives to bring the comforts of home to each guest. The Open Door Wine Bar was born because the owners fell in love with entertaining guests in their own home, but wanted to bring that feeling to the rest of Sisters. The name “Open Door” refers to how they strive to create a personal and friendly experience for all guests. The cuisine is farm-to-table and features delicious seasonal items, while the wine list is a constantly evolving selection of local and imported wines that are specifically selected by the owners to provide a unique and sometimes educational experience.
